Son of: Peres Bardwell
Convincing research now proves that Solomon Bodwell was the son of Peres Bardwell of Whatley (Hatfield), Massachusetts. After migrating to Tyrell County, N.C. and marrying Mary Poole, Solomon apparently left for Arkansas with Jisseu (Jesse?) Cahoon. There they had at least one son, Ezekiel. A baptismal Record of the Parishes Along the Arkansas River, August 5, 1796 to July 16, 1802. Translated from Spanish.
This then would be the same Solomon Bodwell (Bardwell) described in "Citizens of Missouri 1810-1812, Containing Grants in the Present States of Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma." Vol 2, Page 1. Who claimed 40 arpens of land near the river St. Francis, Distrit of Arkansas.
And the same Solomon Bodwell (Bardwell) who claimed land in Arkansas before the U.S. Congress in 1832. Alphabetical list of Private Claims which have been presented to the House of Representative from the firs to thirty-first Congress. Vol 1. A-B, p. 156.
Solomon's son Ezekiel is know to have migrated to Louisiana. This would explain additional references to Bodwell births in Baton Rouge parish later in the 19th Century.
