Sarah was a maternal grandmother of New Hampshire Governor Benjamin Pierce (1757-1839) and great-grandmother of Franklin Pierce (1804-1869) 14th President, Congressman, Brig. General and attorney: Sarah and Able Merrill' daughter Elizabeth (b. 1728) married Benjamin Pierce (1726-1764). Benjamin was the father of Gov. Benjamin Pierce.
