"Joining the Spirits" "Wallace Bodwell, a boxmaker employed in the Union Box Factory, was found dead in his room, on the corner of Davis and Pacific streets, yesterday morning with a bullet wound in his right temple and a pistol lying by his side. He was last seen alive four days ago, and as the body was considerably decomposed, it is supposed that he must have committed the deed soon after. He was 30 years of age and unmarried. Bodwell’s uncle believes that he killed himself through spiritualism, as he was a firm believer in that creed." San Francisco Chronicle, October 24, 1884.
