Son of: Fay 1894
After serving in the Army during WWII, Richard worked for F. W. Woolworth and the Railway Express Agency in North Platt, NE. In 1955, he moved back to Independence, KS and went to work in his father's electrical business. Some time later, he went to work for Bruest Inc. helping them develop a line of electric golf carts. The company expanded its product line and Richard was promoted to the Research and Development Department. In 1964, Richard traveled to Italy for the company and worked developing a catalyst for "flameless" gas heaters. The Coleman Company eventually bought the rights and used the catalyst to produce a line of camping heaters. Richard then went to work for Starcraft Boat Corp. in quality control, then moved on to Emerson Electric Corp. in Quality Control and worked there until he retired. Richard and his wife Darlene are currently(1999) "nomads", living out of their fifth wheel camper and working part-time as Camp Hosts at Elk City State Park for the State of Kansas.
