Phillip Bodwell (1922-1989)

Philip Bodwell, 66, Oneida Route 1, formerly of Highland Park and Larchmont, N.Y., died in St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Wednesday at 1:50 a.m.

He was born in Freeport on Oct. 21, 1922, the son of Andrew and Ione Johnson Bodwell. He married Ruth Ann Jones in Oneida on Sept. 3, 1949. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Becky Nichols, of near Oneida; one sister, Darda Lashway, Honesdale, Pa., and two grandsons.

He was reared and educated in Kansas City, Mo. He attended Northwestern University, Evanston. He had lived in Oneida since June 7, 1989, and lived in Highland Park from 1983 to 1989. He ived in Larchmont, N.Y., from 1965 to 1983.

He was a producer and director of TV and radio advertising. He worked for Doyle Dane Bernach Inc., New York City, and was the company's vice president in charge of radio and TV commercials. He was executive vice president and manager of production for Ogilvy and Mather, Chicago. He was a member of the Directors Guild of America. He twice received the Golden Lions Award for advertising in Paris, France.

He was of the Brotherhood Masonic Lodge 986, Chicago. He trained at Yale University, New Haven, Conn. for officers’ training school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an ordinance officer, and served on Okinawa. He was a member of Glenview Community Church, Glenview, Ill.

Funeral will be in Oneida United Presbyterian Church Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. George Wilson officiating. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Oneida, where Masonic rites will be conducted at 8 p.m. by Oneida Masonic Lodge. Burial will be in Oneida Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the educational scholarship fund at Oneida United Presbyterian Church, the family said.
