Son of: Nathaniel 1800
Martin is the Nathaniel, Jr. who served as Private in Company A., 1st Regiment, Maine Heavy Artillery. He died of small pox while the regiment was stationed in defense of the capital. (also, Penobscot County Records, p. 19). After Martin died, this regiment sustained the second highest casualty rate of any regiment on the union side.
