James Bodwell, Jr. (1712-1797)

James was a cooper and lived in Methuen, Mass.(Methuen Births, Marriages and Deaths before 1850).

James served in Capt Nathan Chandler’s Company, Masachusetts Militia, in August, 1757.  This company was part of the force that was sent to relieve Ft. William Henry.  The fort fell August 9, 1757 to the French General Montcalm, who led a mixed force of French regulars, Canadians, and Indians. The Defense and Surrender of Fort McHenry. Serving at the fort at the time of its surrender was James’ son Eliphalet. (source: A List of Men from Methuen, Ma who served in militia units during the French and Indian War (1755-1763).

At about the close of the French and Indian War, James and his family moved to Windsor, Vt. (Heather Robertson)
