Zadok Christopher Bodwell (1843-1909)

Son of: Zadok 1805

Zadok C. Bodwell was born in Loaraine county, Ohio, on November 13, 1843. When but four years of age he was taken by his parents to a farm near South Bend, Indiana, where his home remained until at the age of twenty-eight years he came to Clayton county, Iowa. There he married Miss Emeline Nichols. Three years later they moved to Sac county and made their home on a farm in Eden township until the spring of 1894 when they moved to the farm which Mr. Bodwell purchased on the eastern edge of Sac City. There he gave his attention largely to dairying, introducing modern sanitary methods and building up a fine business in the supply of milk to city customers. Two years ago last October, he and his family moved to Ida Grove, in which city he built a large feed barn, which he was conducting successfully when stricken with illness. Though ill for a number of months, Mr. Bodwell was not confined to his bed until about ten days before the end, which doubtless was hastened by complications aside from the disease from which he suffered. About twenty years ago, in a revival meeting at Schaller, he entered upon the Christian experience and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, taking up its work with zeal and continuing faithful in the service of his Master. In the days of suffering preceding his call beyond the shadows he was sustained by the faith and hope of his religious experience. Mr. Bodwell was a useful citizen, a good neighbor and a true friend He leaves a devoted wife and four children, namely: Florence M, wife of J. E. Munson, of Spokane, Washington; Sanford R. Bodwell, of Sac city, and Ross E. And Hazel E. Bodwell of Ida Grove. Mr. Bodwell's four children were at home when death came to him and they were present also with their mother at the funeral. Mrs Munson's sons, Ivan and Worth, and Miss Abbie Turner of Monona, Iowas, a niece of Mr Bodwell's, also attended the funeral. (Obituary: Unknown newspaper, July 1809.
