Martin Van Buren Bodwell (1840-1903)

Son of: Nathaniel 1800

Martin served as a Private in Company E., 22nd Maine Infantry. Martin is also listed as a Private in the famous 20th Maine Infantry of "Killer Angels" fame, although more research is needed to determine if he was with the Regiment during the battle of Gettysburg. Oral family tradition holds that Martin went deaf as a result of cannon fire. Photograph courtesy of Elford Messer, Portland Maine.
