Capt. John Bodwell, Jr (1752 - 1811)

John is listed as Captain, 5th Methuen Co, Col Samuel Johnson's (4th Essex Co.) Regiment. List of officers of the Massachusetts militia dated Andover, March 26, 1776; commissioned April 3, 1776; also Col. Jacob Gerrish's Regiment. Payroll for service from April 2 1778 to July 12, 1778, 3 mo. 3 days, with guards at Winter Hill. (State of Maine, p.777).

John and Mirriam moved from Methuen about 1780 to Berwick Landing, Me. They lived at the side landing for a few years, then moved across the river to Somersworth, N.H. and from there (Dec 2, 1786) moved to Shapleigh, Me. (JBT notes)

In 1795 John served as Selectman for the town of Shapleigh.

John is buried in Acton, Maine. (Graves of Revolutionary Patriots, Vol 1)
