Jared Eason Bodwell (1838-1914)

Son of: James 1794

J. E. BODWELL, a merchant at Pierport, (Michigan)  is a native of Canada, and went to Bear Lake in 1873, in the mercantile business. In the Fall of 1881 he came to Pierport for the Bear Lake Pier Co., and in January of the present year went into the general merchandise business. He also buys wood, bark, and ties, which he ships to Milwaukee. Mr. BODWELL has a wife and six children. He is a careful and upright business man, and a most excellent citizen. He is at the head of the Good Templar's Lodge recently organized.

The Grand Rapids City Directory of 1890 lists Jared as living at 176 Gold Street.  Boarding with him was son Delbert M. Bodwell who was listed as working as a clerk for the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway.  His brother William T Bodwell is also listed as a clerk working for the Railway but boarding at 65 Scribner Street.
