Reed graduated in 1975 with a degree in Applied Analysis an Computer Science from the University of Waterloo and for a while, owned and operated his own company, designing and manufacturing add-on products for the word processing and desktop publishing markets. His technical background ranges from application software through to operating system development. He is currently President of Elan Technologies Inc. near Toronto, Canada.
