Capt. Henry Bodwell (1729 - 1816)

In 1762 Henry was an Ensign in Capt. Stephen Barker’s Company, Col. John Osgood’s Regiment of Militia. (Massachusetts List of Militiamen)

Henry turned out on the alarm of the 19th of April 1775, Lexington and Concord. (History of Essex County, Massachusetts, p. 298)

The (DAR Patriot Index, p. 69) lists Henry as Captain from Massachusetts. He is also listed as Captain, 11th Company, Col. Samuel Johnson's ( 4th Essex Company) Regiment; list of officers of Massachusetts militia; commissioned 1779. (DAR Lineage Book, Vol. 21, p. 129) Henry is buried at Faye Hill Cemetery, Methuen Mass. (Graves of Revolutionary Patriots, Vol 1)

Henry’s wife Mary was the daughter of Joseph Robinson and Mehitable Eames of Boxford. Her brother John Robinson was a major in the militia, served in the French war, and in the Revolution. He was instrumental in preventing a mutiny among the soldiers at Valley Forge for which service he was presented a sword by George Washington. (The Dwellings of Boxford, Massachusetts. P. 224-5. )
