In 1863, Eliphalet was working as a laborer in Lowell, Mass. On December 3, 1863 he enlisted as a Private in the 2nd Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Heavy Artillery. He mustered Dec 23, 1863, and died of disease in Portsmouth, Virginia, December 4, 1864.
In May 1875 his mother Mary filed a pension application listing his unit as “K” Co. 2nd Mass Heavy Artillery.
