Son of: Charles 1888
Charles was born in 1925 in Grafton, Massachusetts. Following the death of his father in 1939, when Charles was but 14 years of age, he drove the family Dodge station wagon to Miami with his mother and sister as passengers. After graduating from high school at the peak of WWII, he signed up for the US Arm Air Corps determined to become a flyer. Although at 6' 4" he was too tall for the tight spaces of the fighter planes of the era, he managed to scrunch down and was allowed to continue training. Eventually Charles received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant and became a P-51 pilot. When the war ended Charles used the GI Bill to attend North Carolina State University where he graduated with a degree in Engineering. Following graduation, he went to work for General Motors at the Framingham, Massachusetts assembly plant, eventually working his way up to production supervisor. In 1960 he was transferred to GM headquarters in Detroit, working as Assistant Manager of Quality in the Chevrolet division. He continued with GM until 1980, leaving then as Director of Quality for General Motors Assembly Division. Since then he and his wife Marilyn have traveled extensively, including a six month consultancy assignment in Indonesia. The couple built a home on Cape Cod and lived for a time in Savannah, Georgia. In 1993, they again moved to Mirror Lake, New Hampshire. (Source Charles M. Bodwell, Jr.)
