Augustus Bodwell (1838-1893)

Born June 7, 1838 On George St. New Haven Conn. Enlisted under the first call for 75,000 three months volunteers, at New Haven.Conn. April 20, 1861, in Co. G. 2nd Conn. Vol. Inf. and with the regiment, was mustered out at the expiration of its term of service. He re-enlisted Aug 25, 1862 in Co. H 15th Conn. Vols and again March 23, 1863 in Co. B 14 Conn. Vols. April 15, 1865 was transferred to Co. E. 2nd Conn. Vols. Heavy Artillery. He was engaged with Co. G 2d Regiment C.V.I. at the first Battle of Bull Run. July 21 1861. With Co. H 15th Regiment C.V.I. in the Battle of Fredricksburg Dec. 13 1862. With Co. B. 14th Regiment C.V.I. in the skirmishes at Bristoe Station and Auburn, Va. Oct. 14, 1863 at Blackburn's Ford Oct. 15,1863. Mine Run Nov 30, 1863. In the Battle of the Wilderness May 6,1864, he was severely wounded and was sent to the hospital at New Haven, Conn. Having been again sent to the front, was at Hatches Run, Va. Oct 27 1864, Feb 5 and March 29, 1865. At High Bridge March 30, also at Farmville, Virginia taking part in the series of skirmishes which closed the war with the surrender of Gen. Lee on April 10, 1865. Went off garrison duty at Fort Marcy near Washington, D.C. with Co. E 2nd Conn. Vol. Heavy Artillery, and there , by special order from the War Department July 22, 1865 was mustered out of Service.
